In short

  • Home shows four counts, names the one thing to do next, then lists your apps with the state of each.
  • It needs an account. Without an app, Home shows only Add your first app with the form. The lists appear once the company has an app.
  • Beside the apps sit what Vallit did lately and your company: the plan and where alerts go. Your first steps wait in the inbox.

Where in the app

Home is the first screen after you sign in, and Home in the sidebar brings you back to it. Opening app.vallit.net while you are signed in lands here too. Settings is not in the sidebar: it opens from the account menu at the foot of it, as Your profile shows.

Home: the Next card under the counts (2), the Apps list (3), the Add app button beside the greeting (4) and the What we did card (5).

Step by step

  1. Open Home

Click Home at the top of the sidebar. On a phone, the sidebar sits behind the menu button. Home opens with a greeting that uses your first name. A band under it counts your Apps, the Healthy ones, those that Need attention and the Open incidents. Point at the number after the slash under Apps to see what it counts, such as 2 paid places, plus up to 10 apps on Free.

  2. Take the next step

The Next card names the most urgent thing to do. Click its button, for example Open incident, and the screen for it opens. When a domain waits for confirmation, the card is the domain panel itself, so you pick your DNS provider right on Home.

  3. Read your apps

Each row under Apps names the app, with its state under the name, such as Waiting for its domain. It also shows the app's uptime over seven days, its health score and when it was last checked.

Click a row to open the app's page.

  4. Add another app

Click Add app beside the greeting. The Add an app dialog opens; Adding an app walks through it.

  5. See what Vallit did

In the What we did card, the newest entries say what the daily check found or saw fixed, and what happened to your fix requests. Click an entry to open its app. An entry about a fix request that has moved on opens the Inbox.

  6. Check your plan and alert address

The Company card names your plan with the apps on it, for example Watch · 3 apps, and where alerts go. If Alerts reads Nobody yet, click it to set an alert address. Choose a plan, or Change plan once you have one, opens billing.

  7. Work through the first steps

Click Inbox in the sidebar. While any first step is open, the inbox lists it under Getting started, in the column on the right. Click a step, and the screen for it opens.

What happens behind the scenes

Home reads your company's apps, their latest reports, the guardian's results and your alert settings each time it opens. It changes nothing.

Each app has one state. The first row that applies wins.

StateWhen it shows
Incident openA check failed and the incident has not closed yet.
Waiting for its domainThe domain is not confirmed.
Not checked yetNo report of the app has finished.
HealthyThe latest report scored 85 or more, and all its checks ran.
Partly checkedThe latest report scored 85 or more, but some of its checks did not run.
Needs attentionThe latest report scored below 85.

The Next card also takes the first row that applies:

  • The line under Confirm you own follows that app's own plan. For an app on Watch or Care it reads One DNS record, then it is watched every five minutes. For an app on Free, even in a company that pays for others, it reads One DNS record. A plan then watches it every five minutes.
  • While any app reads Needs attention, the Next card never says All quiet. It names the app with the lowest score and says Its latest report lists what to fix first. See the report opens that app's findings.
  • The number after the slash under Apps is how many apps the company has room for. Without a plan it is the free check's one app. On a plan, it is the paid places plus up to 10 apps on Free.
  • The uptime figure covers the reachability checks of the last seven days. It stays empty until something was measured, so an empty figure never reads as 100 %.
  • On a narrower screen, a row drops when it was last checked first, then the uptime figure. The state and the score always stay.
  • What we did shows the eight most recent entries across all your apps. The daily check and your fix requests write them.
  • Inbox lists what needs you, app by app, worst first: an open incident, a domain to confirm, a health score below 85. The number beside it in the sidebar counts those rows.
  • Clients appears below Inbox once client reports are on, or as soon as the company has two apps. Client reports covers it.
  • Under In progress, the inbox lists the fixes a person at Vallit is working on. Each row says how the fix is paid for and who does it, such as Paid, €99. A person at Vallit prepares the change by Friday 9 October. A paid fix names the day it is due. On Care, a critical finding adds Answered by 18:00 the next business day.
  • The Getting started card lists the first steps still open, such as Say where alerts go or Turn on monitoring. A step counts as done once the thing it asks for exists.
  • The short bars beside the heading fill in from the left, one per step done. Your company counts as the first.
  • A step that already has a row of its own above, such as a domain to confirm, is not listed twice and has no bar. When no step is left to list, the section goes away.
